Top tips for Candidates

Here are some simple tips to help you find the shifts you want and need.

Create an appealing profile to attract more opportunities
  • Did you know shift seekers who have a clean, clear headshot on their profile picture are more likely to be picked?
  • Create an engaging profile detailing your skills, qualifications, training, and any relevant experience.
  • If you are a new entrant and need any advice with training, contact us for assistance.
Highlight your Job History and get your references verified
  • Did you know that seekers who show at least 1 year of job history on their profile are TWICE as likely to get accepted for the shift vacancies?
  • Highlighting your job history helps you stand out and illustrates that you’re capable of doing the job.
  • In the reference and job history section, you can get verified by clicking ‘send verify request.’ Once verified by your reference, a verified badge will appear next to the reference. This gives more confidence to shift recruiters.
  • Remember to be as honest as possible! Use the ‘About Me’ section to provide as many additional details as possible, according to your preference.
Great things happen when we come together!
  • What makes Hive of Hands unique is that you can create your own list of favourite organizations and see who has added you as internal or favourite staff. You have control over who can keep you as their internal or favourite staff. When an organization adds other organizations to their hive, your profile will show as partner internal and favourite staff to all organizations in the hive, increasing your chances of being selected for a shift vacancy.

  • Why wait? Refer family members, friends, colleagues, or even other organizations to join Hive of Hands and create your own hive!

Ratings matter!
  • Did you know that a high profile rating can boost your profile views?
  • You can rate recruiters based on your experience, but remember, recruiters can also rate you back. Putting in a good shift will give you a shift comment on your profile, so you stand out from the crowd.
Avoid negative stats!
  • We totally understand that things don’t always go as planned; after all, it is the lifestyle we have chosen! However, any cancellations will display on your stats, and your reliability score will decrease. The stats will also automatically display any shifts you have withdrawn from in less than 4 hours, which may seriously affect your reliability rating!
Getting paid
  • Monday is pay day! We like to provide our users with a good start to the week. At Hive of Hands, payments are made on a 2-week cycle Here's how it works:
  • You work for 2 weeks, from Monday to the Sunday of Week 2.
  • Your hours are processed the following Thursday after the 2-week period ends.
  • You’ll always be paid on the Monday after the processing Thursday, which comes after your 2-week work period. If you ever need to check where you're at in the cycle, just count your work weeks in blocks of two! anbd check your reports.
  • This system allows us to accurately process all payments and ensures you receive your earnings reliably.
Regulations and honesty matters!
  • We want to make sure the Hive of Hands service works to the best of its ability for all parties.

  • We expect all parties to adhere to the Terms and Conditions and maintain honesty and good standards of conduct. Candidates who are dishonest about their job history, or who withdraw from a shift regularly after confirming and who receive a high number of reports, or no-shows will be taken off our platform. It is only fair to the other users.

Top tips for Recruiters

Here are some simple tips to help you find the best candidates to suit your business and shift requirements.

Posting a shift vacancy
  • When posting a shift, be sure to make the shift description as clear as possible and select all mandatory training requirements, additional requirements, and any compliance requirements you might have. Also, add as many details as you can in the ‘Additional notes about shift.’

A good example is:

Catering Assistant needed for a community hall event. Duties include serving food, setting up, clearing, and basic prep. Smart casual dress, comfortable shoes required. Arrive 15 mins early for briefing.

Teamwork matters!
  • We understand that some shifts run for long hours and some start and end outside regular working hours. For this reason, we have provided the option to create users who can end a shift when the main registered recruiter is not available. These users cannot create a shift vacancy, giving you control over your budget. You can build your team and work with confidence!

Great things happen when we come together!
  • What is unique about Hive of Hands is that you can create your own network of similar organizations. This way, you can share and collaborate with both your internal and favourite staff, as well as the internal and favourite staff of your network organizations on Hive of Hands. You can recruit a shift worker with confidence, knowing they are working at one of your partner organizations on Hive of Hands!

  • Why wait? Go to ‘My Hive’ and ‘Send Hive Request,’ search for the organization you wish to add to your hive and send a request. If you cannot find them in the search, they may not be registered on Hive of Hands. Refer them to join Hive of Hands and get a referral bonus when they join and start recruiting for shift vacancies.

Ratings and comments
  • After the end of every shift, you will be asked to rate your candidates. If you are happy with their work, show some love and give them a positive comment.

Regulations and honesty matters!
  • We want to make sure the Hive of Hands service works to the best of its ability for all parties.

  • We expect all parties to adhere to the Terms and Conditions and maintain honesty and good standards of conduct. Recruiters who are dishonest about their profile, or who delete a shift regularly after the shift has been confirmed and who receive a high number of reports will be taken off our platform. It is only fair to the other users.

  • It is important to us that you find the right workers for your business. With that in mind, please give candidates a reasonable period of time to apply prior to the shift starting time. If a candidate does not turn up, it will affect their stats.

Yes, we take safety very seriously and require all users to go through a verification process. Once your profile is verified, you will be able to search and apply for shifts across the platform.

However, if you are added as an internal staff team within a registered organisation on Hive, or a member of an internal team from a Hive partner organisation (added directly by that organisation), you may still be able to apply for vacancies marked as “Internal and Hive internal” without full platform verification.

Recruitment for these internal roles is entirely at the discretion of the recruiting organisation, based on their own internal networks, trust, and employment relationships.

Full verification is still required to access public or non-internal roles on the platform.

No, your documents cannot be seen by other users, including shift recruiters. Recruiters can only see the “verified” mark when you apply for a shift vacancy

A: Register with confidence, your information cannot be seen by anyone else. Your profile is only visible to recruiters when you apply for a shift vacancy. Your personal details like, verification documents and Bank details cannot be seen by anyone else.

If you can't find the job role you're looking for, please contact us through our 'Contact Us' page. We will review your request and either add this for you where possible or guide you accordingly

After signing up and completing verification, you’re ready to apply and start working shifts. New shifts frequently become available in the ‘Vacancies’ section at hiveofhands.com. Our smart matching system will email you as soon as shift vacancies matching your preferences become available, so be sure to check hiveofhands.com regularly!

You must first find the vacancy you like and apply. You will then receive an email notification to confirm the shift, if the recruiter has selected you and approved your request. You can go to the shift once the vacancy has been confirmed by you.

You will receive a notification via email and on the vacancy you have applied the status will show as “approved awaiting confirmation”.

If you have signed up, please make sure you have verified your account by clicking the email verification link. Check your Junk mail and spam folders and mark the email as “not junk” or “not spam” to receive future emails from hiveofhands.com in your inbox.

Candidates are considered as self-employed contractors rather than employees. This means you have the flexibility to choose when and where you work, but you are responsible for managing your own taxes and benefits.

Please make sure you read the shift vacancy requirements and any additional requirements recruiters may have before applying. Also, be sure to read the checklists and emails you receive before applying for and confirming a shift vacancy.

If the status shows ‘Active,’ it means it is available for interaction, e.g., to apply and confirm. All expired or closed vacancies have their status displayed as ‘Expired,’ ‘Deleted,’ or ‘Closed’ and cannot be interacted with.

Active Status: Ready to apply
Applied: Applied by you (Candidate) and awaiting approval from the recruiter
Awaiting Confirmation: Recruiter has confirmed you for the shift and is awaiting your confirmation

Yes, recruiters may need to verify your identity and documents again for safety and compliance reasons. You may need to show your photo ID and any required documents for verification, such as:

• Photo ID
• DBS
• Driving license
• BRP/Right to work

Your safety is of utmost importance to us, so we advise you to always exercise caution. Verification documents are strictly to show if required. Never give your original documents to anyone under any circumstances. If you have any concerns, you have the right to leave and report the recruiter using the report facility on the vacancy.

Payment weeks explained:
At Hive of Hands, payments are made on a 2-week cycle. Here's how it works:

• You work for 2 weeks, from Monday to the Sunday of Week 2.
• Your hours are processed the following Thursday after the 2-week period ends.
• You get paid the next Monday after processing.

You can see how much you have earned for each shift, day, or period using your reports and giving the date range you want to see.

How much will I get paid?
Pay varies based on job, location, requirements, and sector type, and we strive to be as competitive as possible. We always aim for our users to gain more. Each year, we review our job roles and set a minimum price for each role, ensuring our rates are always competitive and above the living wage.

Go to your confirmed shift vacancy, click “Withdraw,” and the vacancy will be live again so someone else can fill that space.
• If this is more than 4 hours away, there will be no penalty.
• If this is less than 4 hours, it will be noted in your profile stats, and your profile trustworthiness may decrease.

It is good practice to call the organization that posted the shift and inform them of your unavailability as soon as possible.

Feel free! When you (inevitably) find someone, you’d like to work for full-time, you can do so with no additional fees. The aim of Hive of Hands is to help people and businesses. We would be delighted if we have helped you find the right place of work!

Your health and safety are your responsibility. If you do not feel well or feel uncomfortable during the shift, you are allowed to inform the person in charge and leave the shift before the end time. Make sure to ask them to mark the end of the shift based on the time you have left to ensure you get paid for the hours you have worked.

Your health and safety is your responsibility. Walk away from the issue and to a place of safety if necessary and do not engage in any arguments. Try to contact the recruiter using their contact details on their profile page and try to escalate the issue to their management or higher authority in a professional manner, where it is considered safe and appropriate.

If there is something to be reported, please use the report functionality on the employer profile and provide clear details. Your safety is our priority. Contact us using our support email if the issue needs our attention and further investigation.
